Online across the UK · All exam boards · From £25 per hour

Functional Skills Maths Level 1 is all about the practical maths we use every day: money, measures, time, simple percentages and reading everyday information. It is a recognised qualification in its own right and a confident stepping stone towards Level 2.

If the idea of an exam feels daunting, that is completely normal. I specialise in helping nervous and returning learners, starting from what you already know and building up gently until the maths, and the assessment, feel manageable.

How the lessons work

Everyday maths, taught with patience.

Every lesson is one-to-one and online, so we focus completely on the topics you find hardest. I keep things clear and down to earth, with real examples from daily life, then move on to Functional Skills Maths Level 1 practice papers so the exam feels familiar when it arrives.

There is no rushing and no judgement, just steady, encouraging support from a qualified, experienced tutor who wants you to pass.

Common questions

Functional Skills Maths Level 1 questions.

What is the difference between Functional Skills Maths Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 covers the everyday maths needed for work and daily life and is roughly equivalent to a GCSE grade 2 to 3. Level 2 goes further and is broadly equivalent to a GCSE grade 4. Many learners do Level 1 first to build confidence, then move up to Level 2.

Should I start at Level 1 or go straight to Level 2?

It depends on your current confidence and what you need the qualification for. In our free first chat I will help you work out the right starting point, so you are neither out of your depth nor wasting time on maths you already know.

Which exam boards do you cover?

I prepare learners for all the main Functional Skills awarding bodies, including Pearson Edexcel, City & Guilds, NCFE and Open Awards. We simply practise in the format your exam uses.

I have not done maths in years. Is Level 1 right for me?

Very likely yes, and you are in good company. Functional Skills Maths Level 1 is designed for exactly this, and a lot of my learners are adults returning to study. We start gently from what you already know, with no judgement and no rushing.

Are the lessons online?

Yes, every lesson is one-to-one and online, so you can learn from home anywhere in the UK. All you need is a laptop or tablet and an internet connection.
